VOCABULARY A

A is the first letter in the English alphabet.



The letter A is a vowel

There are five vowels in the English language

A,E,I,O,U.

Sometimes the letter Y is also a vowel.

A. A is also a word, it sounds like this. When used as a word it sounds like this.. uh.

Examples:
This is a dog.
Give me a banana.

Ability

Ability means the power to do something.
He has great ability in art.

Able

Able means having the power to do something.
The boy is able to ride the bicycle.
The girl is able to read a book.

Abrupt

Abrupt means sudden and unexpected.
The car came to an abrupt halt.

About

About has two meanings. About means almost or nearly. The glass is about half full.
About also means of or having a relation to.
We talk about the weather.

Above

Above means on top of or at a higher place.The ceiling is above the floor

Absent

Absent means not present. The girl was absent from class. she was not there.

Absorb

Absorb means to soak up a liquid or to take in information
The sponge absorbs the juice or the students absorb the lesson from the teacher.

Abuse

Abuse means bad treatment causing harm or injury.
If you do not change the oil in your car. You will abuse the engine.

Accept

Accept means to agree to receive.
The teacher will accept the assignment to teach the class.

Accident

An accident is something that happens by chance or mistake
An accident is an unplanned event.
The car did not stop at the stop sign, and coused an accodent.

Accompany

Accompany means to go somewhere with someone.
The dog accompanies the woman to the park.
A child accompanies his mother to the market.

Accomplish

Accomplish means to do something successfully.
The worker was able to accomplish the building of the wall.
